The Appointment

I woke up in an unfamiliar place,
It was three in the afternoon, time to leave for my appointment.
I had my suitcase brought to me by a stranger,
And with it, I walked down an unfamiliar street filled with unfamiliar people.
Their faces were evil, and so was mine.

I arrived on time.
“Someone will be with you in a moment,” said the receptionist.
I waited, then someone came in, we talked,
They seemed pleased with me.

“What is in your suitcase?” they asked.
“It was brought to me by a stranger,” I said, staring at the ceiling.
“Open it.”

Inside the suitcase was a man,
“I do not know this man,” I said. “I swear.”
But the man from the suitcase objected,
“You have known me all your life.”

Everyone looked at me like they were expecting something.

“I’m sorry I didn’t properly prepare for the appointment,” I said,
while climbing into the suitcase and zipping it from the inside.

But to myself, I thought that the appointment went quite well.
