To A Pick-Up Artist

now that we are to ever dance
the dance of husband and wife
speak hard and clear to the romance
the shadow of your hidden life

god breaks you to feed his people
life breaks you to see what’s inside
your love was true, these weren’t tricks
it was to yourself that you lied

those who have sealed our history
have shelled our schools and exiled
us into everlasting joy
present of wanton suicide

how not to kill ourselves with our
freedom, how to ever abide?
hear your heart beating in your ears
know that for me you would have died
