Process notes: “A Field Guide to the Atmosphere” is a combination of collage, mixed media, and poetry on translucent pages which have been put together into a booklet. The collage materials were sourced from pages of an old field guide to the atmosphere by Peterson Field Guides from the 1980s and then transformed into new collaged-and-edited artworks for the purposes of this project. I collaged these elements on translucent paper and then added my own handwritten poetry and drawings in pen and marker atop the layers, after which I fragmented, effaced, and repeated the poetics lines I had written throughout the pages of the booklet. I then scanned the booklet such that the translucent layers show through one another. I then took some pages and layered them on top of each other in Adobe Photoshop and edited them, erasing the top layers so that layers underneath could be revealed in places in the edited image and added those images to the sequence.
