Dear Readers and Contributors,
I’m staying dry over here on the west side of Indy, but my heart goes out to all those around the state affected by the floods, especially to my friends right here in Broad Ripple, where I used to live.
I’m putting out this Summer Issue a tad later than I normally do, but I’m fighting the burn out constantly, inch by inch. I keep telling myself that it will get better.
This is my last ‘regular’ issue of Indianapolis Review, and I’m very proud of it, and of the audience we have earned over the years. I’ve said it a thousand times, but we have so many wonderful and talented poets who read and submit their work! I recently went through all the entries for the Visual Poetry Issue, and they were so GOOD. I’m very excited to publish that issue this fall.
Before I ‘retire,’ I knew I needed to interview Steve Henn, and I finally have! Check out our conversation, wherein we discuss the urge to give up on poetry and the universe conspiring to keep you writing, how to write with a distinct voice, humor, the confessional, the lapsed Catholic poet, and pivoting into music…
Also, keep in mind that we will be open for submissions from Sept 1-Dec 1 for Indiana themed poetry and art only. It must have something to do with Indiana (you can’t just be from here). This will be the last issue which I edit before our new editor takes over! They want to give a formal announcement next year.
Lastly, I am still selling ‘Keep Indy Lit’ merch, but I will discontinue it next year when our new editor takes over. Get it now before it’s too late!
