Artist Statement

Israel Solomon is a visual artist and art educator who currently works mainly within the Indianapolis area. He currently teaches middle school art and has created a curriculum, focusing on the foundations of visual art such as drawing and painting technique. Israel also ensures that his students are exposed to a wide variety of artists and forms of expression, including music, dance, and design.

As an artist, Israel enjoys sharing his work with the city of Indianapolis.  In 2018, Israel produced a solo exhibition at the Indianapolis Arts Garden which highlighted his love of vibrant color and geometric shapes.  In 2019, Israel displayed his work at the Garfield Park Arts Center, as well as the artist exhibition at the Indiana Black Expo.  Israel has displayed his work publicly in a variety of places around the city and has created a living mural at KIPP Indy College Prep Middle School where he teaches.  Israel’s plan is to grow artistically as a painter and share his work with the world.  As an educator, Israel envisions himself instructing drawing and painting on the collegiate level in the future.

In June of 2020 Israel was announced as a visiting artist for the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, where some of his work will be displayed and he will teach children of all ages the fundamentals of creating art. Also in June of 2020, He created a mural in support of the Black Lives Matter Movement to replace the boarded up windows at 342 Massachusetts Avenue in Indianapolis Indiana. The mural titled “For George” commemorated George Floyd as a son, man and father. Israel’s purpose for creating this mural was to humanize George Floyd and make him relatable to individuals of all ages, races, and backgrounds. Israel has chosen to dedicate his professional life to his art and educating others.  He intends to reach for the sky by sharing his artwork, knowledge, and experiences with people of all ages.

Israel enjoys using geometric patterns and the human figure within his artwork.  He mixes vibrant colors with shape and pattern to create rhythm within his paintings.  Israel works to distribute colors evenly through the canvas in order to create a sense of balance within each piece.  His goal is to create a color pulse and rhythm that moves the viewer’s eye through the painting.  Israel works to make each shape and layer of color equally interesting within his paintings whether it is in the foreground or background.
