The New Eyes

Yesterday, I went to the store
to buy myself a pair of new eyes
because I always need to own
the latest model.

There was a queue in front of the store.
Everyone was excited.
“With these new eyes,
we will finally be able to see the truth,”
everyone screamed.
“The invisible will become visible at last!”

“Quick! Get rid of this garbage!”
they yelled
as they ripped out their old eyes
and threw them in the direction
where they thought the rubbish bin was.

I did so as well.
However when it was my turn,
the store assistant said
that the new eyes were sold out
and advised me to return in a few days
when a new shipment would arrive.

Now I sit here
writing these lines,
waiting for my new eyes,

Once I have them,
I will finally be able to read what I’ve written.
The anticipation of finding out the meaning of my words
is almost unbearable.
